Fonts and icon packs are the lifeblood of design work, but they are also the messiest part of a designer’s file system. You download a font from a type foundry, grab a free TTF from a blog, purchase an OTF family from a marketplace, and snag an icon pack from a design resource site. Each one lands wherever your browser sends it — Downloads, Desktop, or some random subfolder you forgot about.

Weeks later, you need that specific display font for a new project. Where did it go? You search your entire drive for “.ttf” and get hundreds of results across a dozen locations. You open each one to check the preview, installing and uninstalling fonts just to see if it is the right one. The same chaos applies to icon sets: SVG packs, PNG icon bundles, and icon font files scattered across your system with no logical organization.

The result is wasted time and creative frustration. You spend more time looking for fonts than using them. You accidentally reinstall duplicates. You lose track of licensing information because the font file and its license text are in different folders. A proper asset library should sort itself — and with FinalPlace, it can.

Fonts and Icons Auto-File to Your Asset Library

FinalPlace auto-sorts font files the moment they download. Set a rule to watch your Downloads folder for TTF, OTF, WOFF, and WOFF2 extensions. Every font file is moved to your designated Fonts folder within seconds of download — no manual filing required.

Icon packs are routed by format and keyword. Whether you download SVG icon sets, PNG icon bundles, or icon font packages, FinalPlace can route them to separate icon subfolders based on file type or filename keywords. Icon packs named “outline” go to one folder, “filled” icons to another, keeping your collection browsable and intuitive.

License files and readmes follow their assets automatically. Many fonts and icon packs come with TXT or PDF license files. FinalPlace can include these in the routing rule, so the license stays with the font or icon set it belongs to. You will never lose track of usage rights again.

Set Up Font and Icon Auto-Sorting in Three Steps

Section titled “Set Up Font and Icon Auto-Sorting in Three Steps”
  1. Create font and icon sorting rules. In FinalPlace, set the monitored folder to your Downloads directory. Add font extensions (TTF, OTF, WOFF, WOFF2) and icon extensions (SVG, PNG) as separate rule groups, each with its own destination folder.

  2. Add keyword filters for smarter routing. For icon packs, add filename keywords like “icon,” “glyph,” or “symbol” to distinguish them from regular PNG images. Route font license files (TXT, PDF) to the same destination as the font files so they stay together.

  3. Download a test font or icon pack and verify. Download any font or icon resource to your watched folder. FinalPlace will move it to the correct asset folder within seconds. Once confirmed, leave the rules active — every future font and icon download is organized automatically.
